It is not an ordinary container, but a special heavy‑duty unit designed specifically for open seas, offshore platforms/vessels. With a maximum gross mass of ≤25 tons, it serves as a standard‑issue "offshore express box" for marine engineering, oil and gas exploration, and wind power operation and maintenance.

What is an offshore container?

An offshore container is a specialized container designed specifically for transportation, storage, and operations in extreme marine environments.

Unlike standard shipping containers, offshore containers are engineered to withstand the unique challenges of sea transport. For example, rough handling, extreme weather, and corrosive conditions—all whilst adhering to the strict safety requirements for offshore installations.

These containers provide several key benefits that make them indispensable for offshore operations:

Core Design · Maxed‑out Hard Power

Main components: top side beam, bottom side beam, corner post, lifting lug, fork pocket Minimum plate thickness: Corner columns / bottom beams ≥ 6 mm, other main structures ≥ 4 mm, secondary components ≥ 2 mm. Design temperature: ≤ -20°C (≤0°C for mild sea areas). Overturning resistance: No overturning when tilted 30° in any direction.

Lifting Lugs and Lifting Gear: The "Lifeline" of Offshore Containers

Lifting lugs shall adopt full penetration welding, and the hot-spot stress at hole edges shall be ≤ 2 × yield strength. Four-leg lifting slings shall be calculated on the basis of three-leg load-bearing. The angle between sling legs and the vertical direction shall be ≤ 45°. Shackles shall have a breaking force ≥ 5 times the safe working load, fitted with bolt-type pins and cotter pins. Non-destructive testing and tensile tests (2.5 times the safe working load) shall be performed on lifting slings every 48 months.

Weathertightness Test & Batch Sampling Inspection

Weathertightness: 10% of the same batch shall undergo water jet test, while the rest shall have no light transmission under illumination. Batch sampling inspection: conduct proportional sampling test and perform full‑coverage and full‑point lifting verification.

Inspection, Marking & Compliance Required for Boarding

Whole‑life Cycle Inspection Requirements

Manufacturing Phase: Factory Approval → Type Approval → Unit‑by‑Unit Manufacturing Inspection

Operation Phase: One regular inspection per year, non‑destructive testing for lifting lugs every 48 months

Mandatory Permanent Marking (Indispensable)
